zoomed

i have been using iphone's zoom display setting for a while.

gladly, i still have good eyesight, but i tend to look at my phone on the move a lot, and larger text makes it easier to glance and reduces strain and headaches.

this started from reading kindle with pretty large text size on mobile, so i don't have to update my mental bookmark each time i open and close the app, which happens multiple times during a day.

recently i have noticed i feel somewhat uncomfortable reading any font sizes that are smaller than 16px, even with the zoom on, and find those with moderately larger font (>16px) pleasant.

in my early 40s, i already hear some acquaintances have started experiencing eyesight decline.

guess my preferred font size won't go any smaller over time.

some people argue font size should be left at default, 16px, and that users should customise display settings to their liking, which should work across other websites.

well, the internet used to have smaller font sizes as default (12-14), and those are really small for the majority of the population, middle-aged and older. because a certain number is set as a default doesn't mean it's good for everyone. also, changing settings to make it work across the device is not an easy task.

my biased theory is that if any tech-related stuff is not easy for me, it's probably not easy for the general public either.

as i write this, my vscode fontSize is jacked up to 14.

hence the large text on my blog, as it's mainly being written for me.
